Finding purpose and meaning with your intentionfeatured

An intention is set at the beginning of your yoga practice. You have most likely heard of it from your yoga instructor at the start of class. This intention is a pivotal focus that you will come back to throughout your practice. It will help you stay grounded on your mat and will help fortify the mind body connection.

How do I form a purposeful and meaningful intention?

I have 4 easy steps to help you.

Steps:

1. Begin first by finding stillness on your mat. Close your eyes and take a couple of deep breathes.

2. Listen to your intuition. Let your breathes guide you. What thoughts, feelings or images come to mind?

3. Pick the focus that is calling you the most.

4. What can you do to cultivate that focus? This is the foundation of how you will set your intention. Remember, the intention should be in a manner that is positive and in the present.

My intention is…

Examples:

Staying present

Letting go

Listening to my body

Allowing happiness

There maybe instances where you find your mind wanders as you move through your yoga practice, but refocus and come back to your intention. This is important because this rewires your mind to cultivate awareness for what you need on your mat and off your mat. Your intention serves as a link between your practice and your life. By practicing intention setting, you will find a more fulfilling life with more positive energy.
